Speaker: Kevin Gullikson | Data Scientist, SparkCognition

Session Title: Automated velocity modeling with domain transformations

Description: Presenting research that applies physics-based transformations as part of a machine learning model in order to directly estimate the subsurface properties from minimally-processed observed data. This largely builds on prior work, but makes it possible to scale to both the size and complexity/irregularity of real data.

Our Speaker

Kevin Gullikson

Kevin Gullikson is a Staff Data Scientist at SparkCognition. He has built and deployed machine learning models to predict failures in combustion turbines, wind turbines, and solar farm components for a variety of SparkCognition clients. In addition, Kevin has been working with seismic exploration data for the last two years and has worked on denoising subsurface images with generative AI methods, uncertainty quantification, and subsurface velocity estimation using both traditional and machine-learning methods.

Jason Chadee

Jason Chadee serves as SparkCognition Director of Energy Sales. He brings over 25 years of digital, engineering and research experience in Energy across Oil & Gas, Wind Energy and Utilities to his role where he helps oil and gas upstream to improve their operations by implementing AI at scale. He has authored 13 peer reviewed publications and presented at several international energy conferences.
