At just 24 years old, Tom Jackson is an impressive young entrepreneurial professional. He has already held multiple C-level positions at different startups, such as Chief Operating Officer at Sustainable Dairy Goat Initiative and Chief Strategy Officer at Infinite Recovery (a substance abuse rehabilitation center). Today, he serves as CEO of an eye-tracking startup he co-founded, Locus Insights.

The vision behind Locus Insights is to unlock a currently untapped method of data collection on smartphone users (puns intended). Jackson’s team has developed an AI-powered software called Argos that gathers data on how users visually engage when using their phones, which in turn allows marketers to optimize content and advertisements for the individual based on what has actually caught their eye.

Companies have been increasingly trying to deliver personalized user experience by leveraging artificial intelligence. The modern consumer spends a significant amount of time online and expects their targeted experiences to be relevant and interesting to them. Software like Jackson’s can capitalize on this opportunity.

Though there is undoubtedly great potential in the type of tracking Argos offers, Jackson will be the first to address the roadblocks to the fully accepted integration of this type of software. While consumers demand personalization, there still exists a cultural aversion to giving apps and sites permissions that may impede on an individual’s privacy.

Jackson has the gift of foresight—a valuable skill in the age of AI–and uses it to continuously question what his team and other developers can do to offer the consumer a valuable experience while still respecting privacy wishes. With this understanding of the need for balance between exciting, rapid technological advances and the ethical human factor, one thing is certain—Locus Insights and Tom Jackson are names that we will be hearing a lot about in the years to come.
