NERC Compliance: Best Practices in Solar GADS Reporting

As renewable energy generation becomes an ever-increasing part of the US energy generation portfolio, understanding the causes and frequency of renewable energy outage events is becoming critical. To help grid operators better comprehend outage events at solar power projects, NERC (North American Reliability Corporation) is requiring all solar plants of 100 MW or greater capacity to begin submitting quarterly GADS (Generating Availability Data System) reports in 2024. All solar projects of 20 MW or greater capacity must submit GADS reports beginning in 2025.

The required content of a solar GADS report is extensive and without an automated, AI-enabled system for collecting the data and performing the calculations, this process is extremely time-consuming and prone to error.
